Thanks for the update Terrence! Earnestine and Shelia started a family tree. Perhaps they can share the information!
My recollection is that they had an electronic family tree....

The
Planning Committee in Huntsville has been gathering information about Huntsville, seeking some great venues, and visiting
some great accommodations for our Reunion.
Our major purpose for the Kirksey Family Reunion 2012 is to connect our family to our
roots.
I have just recently found some interesting history concerning our family.
One of my most recent finds is Green Berry, Sr. and family lived in Tunica County, Mississippi
during the 1920 Census.

we discover our roots, this year we will establish our family tree from Green Berry Kirksey, Sr. to his current family descendants.
This
will take some work, but I have a plan to get this done quickly and efficiently. ALL I NEED IS YOU!!!!
We NEED a family member from each of the family units below to participate in establishing
the family tree and participate in the final planning of the Kirksey Reunion 2012.

Subject: Harvard University Announcement!
If you know of any one who qualifies, this is
an opportunity worth looking into.
Harvard University Announcement
Harvard University announced over the weekend that from now
on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In
making the announcement, Harvard's president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten percent of the students in elite higher
education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing
enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."
If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor
student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants
to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income
families can go to
Harvard
for free... no tuition and no student loans!
To find out more about Harvard offering
free tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year, visit Harvard's financial aid website at:
http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu/ <http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu/> or call the school's financial aid office at (617) 495-1581.
SEND
TO SOMEONE WHETHER THEY CAN USE OR NOT. THEY JUST MIGHT KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN.

Dear Marquette:
I do appreciate the many informative E-mails that you provide regarding the Cook
Family. I do read all of them although I rarely get a chance to respond to them. Regarding a recent one however,
I had to find the time to give you a response.
Please let this memo serve as a huge thank you to Doris Brown
for her info regarding Dr. Ben Carson. Although I have not personally met Dr. Carson, I have great respect and admiration
for him. We went to the same high-school, Detroit Southwestern (I am a few years older than he). A few years ago
while reading his very inspirational book, Gifted Hands, I learned that he and I have something else in common;
our treasured mentor, Ms. Alma Whitley.
Ms. Whitley was a counselor at Southwestern and although she was not my personal
counselor and I did not know that she even knew I existed, she sought me out in my senior year and firmly told me "you are
going to go to college". I responded that college for me is not possible because I have no money for college and there
was no way my single mom could help me go to college. As if my words meant absolutely nothing to her, her blithely optimistic
response simply was "okay, I heard what you said, but you are still going to go to college". Because of her prodding,
I too learned to be optimistic and to have a "can do" attitude. It was Ms. Whitley's prodding that pushed me through
college and through law school. I still recall her positive attitude on those days when I need a little prodding to
get through difficult times.
While reading Gifted Hands, I was amazed that Dr. Carson told almost
the exact same story about Ms. Whitley. She had also been his "inspiring motivator" when his life was in a "can't do"
mode. My guess now is that Ms. Whitley did this with many many students. We all are eternally grateful.
On September 4, 2004, I attended the Detroit Southwestern Classes of the 1960's
Reunion at the Detroit Renaissance Center. More than 600 people attended. I held hope that Dr. Carson would be
there but he was not. People came from as far away as California, Washington State, and Berlin, Germany. An announcement
was made that Ms. Whitley, who had long ago retired and moved south, passed away earlier this year. It was a very sad
moment for all of us but her "can do" attitude is her legacy that lives on within all of her students. Regarding Dr.
Ben Carson, my "mentor-mate", please know that all of us from the old neighborhood have Dr. Carson in our deepest prayers
and thoughts.
Milt

This contribution comes to us from Kyle A. Cook
Hi Dad,
I think you're doing an excellent job with the Cook family website. Next year, for my 26th birthday, I'd like to take
a personal journey to Greene County, AL and visit the cemeteries and any other historical sites in the area, associated with
our family. I am always moved whenever I look at the historical photos of the sons of Charles Sr. and Sarah Ann. It's
truly amazing how much Grandpa, Cato, Clarence and you resemble Arthur Cook.
But I have a suggestion about Sarah Ann. In the Brief Family History section, she's described as a 'full blooded Indian
woman'. I feel that the Indian nation she belonged to should be noted. It's more specific, and it would honor her,
as well as offer us more information about our full heritage. If you have access to that kind of information about her
or if any family members from her side know what nation she belonged to, I think that it's important for all of us to
have that information posted.
-Kyle

This contribution come to us from Doris
Brown,
IRAQ - VERY INTERESTING - DID YOU KNOW?
1. The garden of Eden was in Iraq.
2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of
civilization!
3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.
4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq.
5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!
6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq.
7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.
8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.
9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of
Israel.
10. Amos cried out in Iraq!
11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.
12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq!
13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire
in Iraq
(Jesus had been in Iraq also as the
fourth person in the fiery
furnace!)
14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the
wall"
in Iraq.
15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews
captive
into Iraq.
16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.
17. The wise men were from Iraq.
18. Peter preached in Iraq.
19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which
was a city in Iraq!
And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation
is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the
name that is used in the Bible. The names used
in the Bible are Babylon, Land
of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia
means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris
and
Euphrates
Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots. Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very
significant country in the
Bible.
No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq. And also... This is something to think about! Since America
is typically
represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...
The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)
Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia
would
awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be
felt
throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the
people
trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of
the
Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.
(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?! God Bless you all Amen!
This is a ribbon for soldiers fighting in Iraq.
pray.
