The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

OBITUARY

Frances Helen Dotson Cook

1927 - 2012

Frances Helen Dotson Cook was born on October 27, 1927 in Austin, Texas to Ishmael and Bessie Lydia Dotson.  Frances was the youngest of seven children and spent her early years in San Antonio and Austin before enrolling in Tillotson College at the age of sixteen.  After graduating from college, she moved to Chicago and began her teaching career.

While in Chicago, Frances met her first husband and had a son, Joseph Sharpe, Jr.  She later met and married Clarence Cook, a union that lasted over 50 years.  The couple had a daughter, Francesca.  Soon after the birth of their daughter, the Cook family moved to New York, where Frances continued her teaching career and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Adelphi University.  In 1970, the family moved to Columbia, Maryland.  Clarence's job provided the opportunity to travel and live abroad: in the late 1970s, the family moved to Paris, France.

Frances was outgoing and loved being around her family.  She never shied away from speaking her mind and was always happy to engage in a debate during the Christmas dinners she hosted each year.  Following the Dotson tradition, she loved music, dance and theater.  She played clarinet as a child, began piano lessons in her 70's and enjoyed going to plays and dance concerts throughout her life.  She also was an avid traveler and cherished her time in Europe and her annual trips across the United States.  Always eager to learn new skills, she took advantage of local classes in a variety of areas, from Spanish to furniture making.  She kept active all her life, playing competitive tennis into her 70's joining a dance troupe for seniors, gardening and participating in her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated.

Frances was happiest surrounded by family and will be missed by many.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clarence: two children, Joseph and Francesca; a granddaughter, Kai; two surviving siblings, Alfred Dotson and Thelma Calhoun, who reside in Austin Texas; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
he restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the
Presesence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup
runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I will dewell in the house of the Lord forever.

********

What would we give her hand to clasp,
Her pagtient face to see
To hear her voice, to see her smile.
As in the days that used to be.
But some sweet day we'll meet again
Beyond the toil and strife,
And  clasp each other's hand once more,
In Heaven, that happy life.

From Your  Loving Husband and Children

Wilbertha was united in holy matrimony in June of 1965 to James Allen Hightower.  They were married 38 years until God called him home in March of 2003.  Wilbertha's employment with Raumell Catering allowed her to work at several of Detroit's historical venues.  Some of these places included Cobo Hall and Tiger Stadium.  This provided a lot of fun times with the grandchildren, taking them to the annual Christmas Carnival at Cobo Hall were one of the highlights of each year.  Wilbertha made her transition from Earth to Glory.  Her son Willie, grandson Anthony and sister Olivia all preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her memory:  one daughter, Verna (George) of Allen Park, MI; one sister Marietta Blanton (Ronnie) of  Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

God saw the road was getting rough
The hill was hard to climb
He gently closed those loving eyes
And whispered, "Peace Be Thine".

The weary hour, the days of pain
The sleepless nights are passed
The ever patient, worn-out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.

A place is vacant in our home -
Which never can be filled.

And after a lonely heartache
And many a silent tear,
But always a beautiful memory -
Of one we love so dear.

Robert L. Scott
October 25, 1953 - April 15, 1998
Seattle, WA.

Robert L. Scott was born on October 25, 1953, in Seattle, Washington.

Working in radio was Robert's childhood dream and while attending Washington Junior High School, he fulfilled that dream and landed his first radio job at the University of Washington's KUOW.  At age 14 he could be heard hosting a jazz show on that station.  Later that same year Robert secured a weekend position with Black-owned KYAC AM & FM and by the time he was 17 and graduating from Rainier Beaach High School, he was firmly seated as the station's morning host.

Robert's 30-year radio career spanned across numerous formats and positions.  He was a newsman for KOMO radio, the first Black dee-jay hired by Top-40 formatted KJR radio, and general sales manager at KKFX (K-FOX).  He also logged time at KWJZ, KEZX, KIRO, KZAM, & KRIZ.  Robert was most recently employed by Entercom Seattle handling sales for Classic KING FM and KNWX. At KYAC radio Robert was program, music and news director at one tome and could often be heard filling in an air-shift, or doing the news.

Mentored by his life-long friend Frank Barrow, Robert became responsible for giving many aspiring announcers their first radio exposure.  His frank manner and experienced leadership helped to launch and direct the careers of many local and now national personalities.  Robert always pushed his staff to be their absolute best and routinely listened to each announcer's program.  He would often call on the "hot line" to point out various ways they could have improved their last music set or news story.

In 1978 Robert married Vivian Phillips, two daughters were born to this union, Jazmyn Scott, and Jene Sscott.  In addition to his daughters, Robert is survived by his mother Mamie Scott, his sister Bernita Buxton, Terry Rau, and Georgia Milton, and a brother Glenn Scott.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card
Or sat quietly in a chair,
Perhaps you sent a floral piece,
If so we saw it there
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words
As any friend could say,
Perhaps you were not there at all,
Just thought of us today
Whatever your message, whatever your part
We thank you kindly for consoling our hearts
